As part of a team of local child care workers, Family Day Care carers earn an income working from home. For many carers this means being able to combine earning an income whilst still being at home with their own children. The Co-ordination unit equips carers with resources and training in current child care practices.
SKILLS AND QUALITIES OF A CARER:
- Have a genuine interest in making a difference in children's lives.
- Good knowledge and understanding of early childhood developmental needs.
- Have an acceptance of a diverse range of cultures and religious beliefs.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Possess excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work within scheme guidelines and accept direction.
- Ability to keep accurate administrative records.
- Willingness in furthering professional development.
- Be enthusiastic and have a sense of humour.
- Have a respect of different child rearing practices.
- Be sensitive to the needs of families.
- Have the ability to work co-operatively, with families, carers and FDC staff.
CARER TRAINING.
As part of professional development FDC provides carers with the opportunity to attend regular training sessions on a variety of topics. Topics include children's learning and development, CPR, nutrition, health and hygiene, first aid and administration and more.
